    Default Tangent line to a circle

    Is it possible to choice a bespeak on a circle and accept autocad (we are using 2011) draw a line that is tangent to that bespeak. Thanks for any assist.

    Aye you lot can. Check out the tangent osnap. Draw your circumvolve, start the line command, select the tangent osnap, pick on circle. Every bit you lot move the other terminate of the line effectually, y'all should meet the line staying tangent.

    That would be merely every bit simple as that, unless that specific betoken in the circle is important. In the Tangent to circumvolve osnap, you may detect that the picked point in the circle moves depending where you put the second point of the line.

    If in any case you need a tangent line on a specific point in a circumvolve,

    1. Draw a line (Line1) from the circumvolve'south center to that specific point (Point A).
    2. Make a line (Line ii) perpendicular to Line 1.
    3. And so Move Line ii (midpoint/nearest/endpoint - every bit yous like) to Point A.

    Line 2 is at present Tangent to the circumvolve on a specific point.

    If in whatsoever case you need a tangent line on a specific point in a circle,

    i. Describe a line (Line1) from the circle's center to that specific point (Point A).
    two. Make a line (Line two) perpendicular to Line 1.
    three. And so Motion Line two (midpoint/nearest/endpoint - as yous similar) to Betoken A.

    Line 2 is now Tangent to the circumvolve on a specific point.

    But, if you know the bespeak in accelerate, you lot can but strike a line through the circumvolve and start from the intersection.

    @John, How can you depict a perpendicular line if you volition start in the intersection? Because the key here is to draw a line perpendicular to a line passing thru the heart and the said point.

    Unless, you will set the UCS to the line passing the center and the point, and setting ortho=on.

    Either you know the starting point (and therefor the direction to the other end) or you don't.
    If you know the starting point in that location are but two possible directions that will requite tangency and they are both perpendicular to a radial.
    If you lot don't know and then y'all construct from the other terminate to a tangent point.
    You tin't have it both ways.

    This may help:
    Suppose you lot have already known the bespeak (Point A) on the circumvolve.

    command: Xline
    -> Select Point A
    -> Snap to Tan
    -> So select a point on the circle, which closes to Point A.

    Hi guys,

    My issue here is that I wanted to describe a line tangent to a circle at a PARTICULAR betoken (fastened).

    What might be the best practice to accomplish this with to the lowest degree number of steps?

    Thank you

    All-time

    I'd draw the line from the point on the circle thru the center point using cen osnap & entering the distance. Then pick the line & rotate using the endpoint grip while property the shift key to toggle ortho way to make it tangent to the circle.

    'Grade at that place'south usually at to the lowest degree 3 ways to practice anything in AutoCAD.
